Amaroo Club Annual Luncheon
At this year's Amaroo Club Annual Luncheon, we enjoyed great food, wine, and company, connecting with friends old and new from our community.
The event was a wonderful success, with a record turnout overlooking the stunning Melbourne cityscape from the 21st floor of PwC.
We kicked off the event with a welcome opening from our MC, Kristen Skinner and a heartfelt Acknowledgement of Country from Rona Glynn-McDonald, CEO of Common Ground. Amaroo co-founder Andrew Phillips joined us to provide an update on the incredible work and impact of Amaroo Club and the Foundation over the last 12 months before Rona joined us back on stage to share an update on our partnership and the impact of Project Narmara.
Over entrees, we heard from our keynote speaker, the Climate Council's inspiring CEO Amanda McKenzie. Amanda shared the landscape of the climate crisis in Australia with the room, the critical work that the Climate Council and others are doing to address the systemic and political barriers to climate action in Australia and a hopeful view of what each of us can do in our own backyards to make a difference.
Over lunch, Andrew then hosted a moving panel discussion with Patrick O'Callaghan from the Alannah and Madeline Foundation, Fiona Sanford from the Flourish Journey, Lucy Barratt from The Man Cave and Lydia Garrett from Igniting Change, discussing their journeys into their work with charities and vulnerable communities, the critical role of mental health and education for building generations of healthy and thriving young people, and the role that philanthropy plays in making this work possible.
We closed with Andrew—our tech wizard for the afternoon and Chair of the Amaroo Club—inviting each of us to become an Amarooian, a beautiful acknowledgement of generosity and philanthropic giving that helps fund life-changing projects for underprivileged children and communities throughout the world.
Our heartfelt thanks to our amazing speakers, panellists, and hosts, as well as to Jennifer Vi and the team at PwC for hosting us in their space, for being such wonderful supporters of Amaroo, and for making the day possible.
